Title: ‘Grasshopper’, Fine Art Photography by Anna Heimkreiter (Self-portrait, 2020)
Location: Upper Bavaria, Germany
About the artwork: The 2020 pandemic challenged many of us not only personally, but also creatively. When you are not allowed to leave the house, how do you make art? Especially as someone who usually seeks out natural surroundings, this asked me to find new ways to get creative.
Taking a break from photography was no option since I was still in the middle of a 52-week project, creating one self portrait per week. So for this one, a simple plant inspired me, transporting my mind to a wide, grass-filled prairie. What would it feel like to hide in there? What would I discover? So, after taking the close-up portrait with grass framing my face, I got a little creative with Photoshop and added two little green friends, the grasshoppers, to the image.
Can you imagine being eye-to-eye with grasshoppers and other little beings? For a moment in time, while creating this, I could. And it’s an approach I like to follow in life, too: Changing perspective is always good to discover something new. There is wonder to be found even in the little things.
