About the artwork: Do you ever have the urge to simply disappear into nature? This self portrait was created in what might be my favorite place in all of England – an enchanted forest in Surrey that looks absolutely magical even when there is no fog around.
One lucky morning during my time there, I woke up to a thick layer of mist covering the world outside. It was early autumn and the leaves and ferns had already changed their color to a wonderful palette of brown and red.
As I strolled through the forest, bare feet on the surprisingly warm ground, I took some other self portraits before spotting this group of beautiful ferns. They were inviting me to go disappear in their embrace, to hide between them just like the trees were hiding behind a layer of fog.
Sometimes I dream of becoming fully one with nature and taking self portraits is often the closest I get to that state. Just as the first dog walkers started making their way to this part of the forest, I emerged from this little jungle again and carried on as if nothing unusual had happened here.
